Liberals (Apparently) Fonder of Outdoor Living

Do you think outdoor living can really be divided along party lines?

In the political spirit of the day, Realtor.com asked a partisan question: “Which states have the most homes for sales with certain outdoor amenities, and which way did they vote in the 2008 presidential election?” According to the respondents in the survey, liberals love their outdoor living areas[1]. Or maybe it’s just that the weather in California is so dang balmy…

According to the results of the poll, swimming pools, spas and hot tubs, outdoor kitchens, built-in barbecues, cabanas, and outdoor bars are far more likely to sell your home in a blue state like California or a coastal state that went for the sitting president in 2008, like Florida. As MSN Real Estate points out, these are also states with more areas where the financial demographics allow homeowners to “say, drop $8,000 on a grill.” However, when it comes to fire pits and swim-up bars, the conservatives have the edge: Texas and Arizona led the pack in these two categories.

So what does this really tell us about our political parties? Probably not much, other than that outdoor living areas are growing in popularity all the time. Homeowner interest in outdoor amenities is growing rapidly according to the American Institute of Architects, and both parties apparently like to party in their own backyards. Do you have your own outdoor living space? Would you factor that in when buying a new home?

The reason liberals spend more time aoudoors is that liberals don’t have to worry about mosquitos sucking their blood when out side. They get professional courtesy.
